    GAA Funday

Young and old had a great time at the GAA Funday held at McGovern Park on April 22nd that was organised by Jason Doherty. Here is a message from Jason.

    Thank you!

On behalf of Burrishoole GAA, I want to thank everyone who attended our fundraiser on April 22nd at McGovern Park, Newport. The morning was a huge success and it was great to see such a mixed crowd, of all ages, participating and engaging in all the activities.

Thanks to the registrations, individual donations and purchase of raffle tickets the total raised on the morning was €2,428.10, which exceeded all expectations so I am very thankful to all who contributed in any way. The money will help make a huge difference to the lives of 80 children in Cheshire Home in Zambia along with helping the men and women's senior football teams in the club.

The morning itself, however, would not have been possible without the assistance of a number of people who helped prepare the event weeks in advance and gave up their time to help with the coaching and setup on the morning. They know who they are so I won't list them out but I'd like to give Brian McLoughlin a special mention as the morning would not have been possible without his energy in getting coaching stations organised, visiting schools, collecting registrations and getting all equipment ready.

I would also like to thank our special guests - Lee Keegan, Tom Parsons, Paddy Durcan and Ger Cafferkey who gave up their morning and put a lot of smiles on the kids' faces in particular with pictures, autographs and words of wisdom.

We also had two excellent presentations from Peadar Gardiner (Mindspace Mayo) and Caroline Brosnihan (Connacht Nutrition & Dietetic Clinic) that were very well received by coaches and parents who attended so I'd like to thank them for giving us their time, sharing their knowledge and creating awareness.

We finished off the day with a raffle, which had a superb selection of prizes thanks to the number of people who kindly sponsored vouchers and other items. These included Sheridan's Centra, Hotel Newport, Kelly's Butchers, Keane's Butchers, Walshes Bridge Inn and The Gráinne Uaile. I would just like to emphasise that their generosity is hugely appreciated and it helped to close out the morning on an exciting and positive note.

Finally, I hope we can do something like this again so feel free to get in contact if you have any ideas for events or fundraisers that could be explored,

    Thanks again,Jason Doherty.

Thanks to Micheál Quinn for the photographs taken on the day. Click here to see them.
